Tomoko Konoike
“Unglazed clay”
Founded in 1958, Galerie Miyawaki was locating to its present five-story building designed for art gallery on Teramachi-Street in Kyoto in 1973. Since then it has hosted a succession of unique exhibitions to become representative dealer in modern and contemporary art in Kansai region. While previously specializing in surrealist art and art informel, from the last two decades the gallery has become focused in even more marginal realm of artistic creations. The sense of art appreciation here is based upon the idea that a primal desire for life is the foundation for all creativity.
In this occasion, Galerie Miyawaki present three artists: Tomoko Konoike’s clay objects which are to be included in her touring museum exhibition “Primordial Violence”, Nobuo Kurosu’s “point-zero” painting for his first appearance in Kansai and Swiss deceased artist Philippe Saxer’s emotional drawings which were executed while fighting against his severe mental disorder.
