FUMA Contemporary Tokyo|BUNKYO ART
BUNKYO ART was established in 1982, in Yushima, Bunkyo ward, Tokyo. In 1988, we opened our project gallery in Ginza, and in 2000 moved to Yaesu in Chuo ward, Tokyo. FUMA Contemporary Tokyo featured contemporary art was established in 2010 when we also moved to our current location in Hacchobori in Chuo ward in Tokyo. While concentrating on exhibitions which encourage the reevaluation of post-war art by so-called avant-garde artists such as Key Hiraga, Tatsuo Ikeda, Hiroshi Nakamura, Kuniyoshi Kaneko, Jiro Oyamada, and Masao Tsuruoka who represent the Japanese art in 1950s and ‘60s and also actively organize exhibitions for young, emerging artists as well. We also regularly takes part in major art fairs such as Art Taipei, Shanghai Art Fair, Korean International Art Fair, Art Fair Tokyo, and Tokyo Contemporary Art Fair. The galleries have a worldwide client list (USA, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan and etc.), and have collaborated with over 20 national museums with whom we have cooperated with their exhibitions. We have promoted the works by young artists in collaboration with our partner in Taiwan. Based on many years of practical experience in gallery management, we offer this motto as an expression of the sustainable mission that connects our past, present, and future: FUMA Contemporary Tokyo | BUNKYO ART. We have attempted to act on behalf of the artists in order to pass down their belief in the arts.
