Kozo Nishino is a sculptor who has created large-scale sculptures that harmonize the magnificent nature. He also created numerous public artworks. His delicate and dynamic sculptures are made of titanium alloy wire welded with intricate handiwork and have a structural beauty.

For Expanded Section of ART OSAKA 2024, we will showcase a series of Nishino’s sculptures employing a trussed structure. We expect the sculptures will resonates with architectural space and let the visitors experience the expanse of time and space. In a new installation to be displayed in the section, the artist attempts to create the space like stratospheres spreading out between the clouds and outer space, and to give visitors some imaginations to experience as if they can freely walk around while looking down on the earth.

In Expanded Section Stratosphere will be exhibited in a large space in sixty meter in depth. Stratosphere is composed of five sculptures. Each sculpture is fixed to the wall surface at a single point, floated in the air and held in an exquisite balance. This type of mounting is known as cantilever construction. Three circular sculptures are respectively 9 meters, 7.2 meters, and 6 meters in diameter. Two horizontal sculptures are in the length of 26 meters and 10 meters respectively. The installation is almost the largest ones he had ever done for exhibitions. Stratosphere evokes the convective atmosphere that surrounds the earth. The graceful curves of the sculptures are drifting and merging with each other.

We hope the visitors will enjoy the installation and experience of being connected to the boundless universe through their own imaginations.
