I create furniture and sculptures mainly from driftwood and scrap wood that I collect from beaches and demolition sites.
Memory and time have been important themes for me since the beginning of my career.
I am attracted to the beauty of objects that have weathered and decayed over time, and I want to preserve this beauty in my work by using materials such as driftwood, old wood, and scrap wood.
These materials have already held a lot of memories and time. Artificial materials such as driftwood and scrap wood have the memories and time of the people who used them engraved in the scratches on their surfaces. I hope to evoke the viewer's memories connected with the passage of time by creating works of art with feelings of transience and nostalgia that are difficult to convey when the materials are left as they are.
